Metal nanoparticles in treatment of experimental purulent wounds

Year: 2011, volume 7 Issue: №2 Pages: 530-533
Heading: Surgery Article type: Original article
Authors: Babushkina I. V.
Organization: Saratov Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics
Summary:

The research objective was to study the dynamics of the bacterial contamination and the healing rate of the experimental purulent wound when applying the suspension of copper, iron, zinc nanoparticles locally. Iron, copper and zinc nanoparticles received by a plasmochemical method were used under the influence of a plasmic stream with the temperature 5000-6000°K. 40 white rats — males with purulent wounds were used in the investigation. Planimetric and bacteriological methods of study helped evaluate the traumatic process. They were carried out on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 14th days. Application of the suspension of copper nanoparticles ensured the elimination of the causative agent which had contaminated the wound in a short period of time in comparison with the groups in which iron and zinc nanoparticles had been applied and the control group. The shortest term of wound healing was detected when using the suspension of copper nanoparticles; a rather less healing rate was observed when using the suspension of zinc nanoparticles. Regenerating action of iron nanoparticles was less evident considerably, but significantly differed from the control group. In conclusion it was stated that the use of the suspensions of metal nanoparticles in the isotonic solution was proved to be effective in the local treatment of purulent wounds. Suppression of microbial flora and regenerative action were detected to various degrees. The most evident antiseptic and regenerative action was determined in copper nanoparticles

System analysis in optimizing the choice of treatment for patients with complicated forms of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities

Year: 2011, volume 7 Issue: №2 Pages: 528-530
Heading: Surgery Article type: Original article
Authors: Kukolnikov E.L.
Organization: Samara State Medical University
Summary:

Methods: to optimize treatment of patients with complicated forms of chronic venous insufficiency of our method was applied systems analysis, proposed by Th. Saaty (1993), and was called the «method of analysis of hierarchies». Results: the results indicate a direct relationship to the choice of methods for the treatment of patients with complicated forms of chronic venous insufficiency of the influence of individual actors and the goals of each. Conclusion: applying the analytic hierarchy process in selecting a method of treatment in patients with complicated forms of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities can improve the quality of life of patients and reduce the frequency of disability, reduce the rate of loss of ability to self-service, as well as reduce the costs of treating both the patient and medical institution

Application of new original ointments for treatment of burns with experimental pseudomonas infection

Year: 2011, volume 7 Issue: №2 Pages: 523-525
Heading: Surgery Article type: Original article
Authors: Shub G. М., Alipov V. V., Lebedev М. S., Dobreikin Е.А., Alipov N. V., Pronina E.A., Raikova S. V., Shapoval O. G.
Organization: Saratov State Medical University
Summary:

The research goal is to assess the efficacy of treatment with two new original ointments for burns with experimental pseudomonas infection. Burns have been caused by laser to three groups of white rats (20 animals in each group). In 3 days the wounds were infected with clinical strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The wounds of the first group of rats were treated with ointments № 1, the wounds of the second group of rats — with ointments № 2. The third group did not receive any treatment. In 3, 10 and 14 days period the number of microbial cells in purulent discharge was studied. Then they were grown on meat-peptone agar. The number of colonies was counted. The number of cells in purulent discharge of treated wounds was less, than it was in purulent discharge of untreated wounds. The number of cells in purulent discharge of treated with ointments №1 wounds was higher, than it was in purulent discharge of treated with ointments №2 wounds. The article concludes that the local antimicrobial effect of both ointments is explained by their main components — some essential volatile oils and chloramphenicol

Modern patterns of tuberculosis epidemiologic situation among children in the North-West of Russia

Year: 2011, volume 7 Issue: №2 Pages: 518-522
Heading: Phthisiology Article type: Original article
Authors: Isaeva N.Yu., Mayorova О.A., Galkin V.B., Archakova L.I.
Organization: St. Petersburg Scientific Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology
Summary:

The research work has been carried out on the basis of official statistics data and results of curator departures. The purpose is to study the basic tendencies of tuberculosis epidemic situation among children for the period from 2004 till 2008 in the region of the North-west of Russia for working out priority antitubercular scheme. The disease morbidity has been investigated. Tendencies of situation development in each region with application of an estimation of morbidity rate have been defined. The nonparametric factor of correlation of Spirmen (c) has been taken into account. It is established that in case of normal epidemic situation, the basic indicators of tuberculosis in children from the Northwest of Russia are higher than all over the country. Epidemic situation in Kaliningrad is marked by accumulation of MBT+ in contingents. St.-Petersburg and Kaliningrad epidemic statistics accounts 52% from total number of ill children that influences a district indicator. In Kaliningrad and Arkhangelsk regions children from contact as a result of accumulation of adult MBT+ in contingents fall ill more often. The main method to reveal the pathology among children in St.-Petersburg is prevention, however children morbidity from contact with MBT+ in 2008 in 1,8 times lower than in the North-west Russia. The received data have found out that in Kaliningrad and Arkhangelsk regions the main direction in the antitubercular scheme is an increase in efficiency of treatment of tuberculosis in contingents of adults MBT+; in Murmansk, Pskov and Leningrad region it includes the modern preventive measures. For St.-Petersburg all directions of antitubercular work will be equally significant

Dynamics of lower urinary tract of a fetus in intrauterine development retardation

Year: 2011, volume 7 Issue: №2 Pages: 513-517
Heading: Urology Article type: Original article
Authors: Glybochko Р.V., Chekhonatskaya M.L., Piskunova L.V.
Organization: Saratov State Medical University, First Moscow State Medical University n.a. I.M. Sechenov
Summary:

The research goal is to study and analyze the relationship between the level of intrauterine development retardation and urine dynamics indicators of lower urinary tract of a fetus with the help of ultrasonic examination. The urinary function of 89 fetuses was under study. Methods of prenatal ultrasonic cystometry and urofluometry were used to examine the urinary function of a fetus. Statistical software package (Statgraphics 6.0) was used for the statistical analyses of the results. The study has shown that decrease in bladder capacity, increase in residual urine volume and frequent urination are usually the indicators of intrauterine development retardation. The third-degree of intrauterine development retardation is characterized by decrease in diuresis and increase in duration of micturition cycle according to gestational norm
