Public knowledge of risk factors, signs and treatment of stroke: Analysis of the survey results in 2014 and 2017

Summary:

Aim. This study was conducted to establish levels of knowledge in the general population, and also to determine the impact of educational sessions on stroke knowledge. Material and Methods. Two groups (2014 and 2017 years) completed a stroke knowledge questionnaire (435 respondents). Results. Overall, most of respondents could list 2 or more risk factors, but only 50% in 2014 could list 3 warning signs. More than 80% would call emergency number in response to stroke, but only 25% had heard of thrombolytic therapy. Overall stroke knowledge scores decreased in 2017 despite the public awareness in the media. Conclusion. Currently the knowledge of stroke risk factors, warning signs, and treatment is poor in Saratov. Our study demonstrates that more educational campaigns should be conducted for improve knowledge of stroke symptoms, and therapy.

Quality of life and health risk factors in officers departed from Armed Forces

Summary:

Objective: assessment of quality of life, identify of health risk factors for officers discharged from the Armed Forces, and development of step-by-step system for medical and social assistance to reserve soldiers (retired). Material and Methods. Anonymous questioning of 358 officers in different time periods, including the last year of service before departure, with the subsequent processing of the data using the statistical program SPSS. Results. It was established that the highest indicators of quality of life were from the military in reserve (RET.) more than 3 years, and the lowest from the military a year before the departure from the Armed Forces and in the first year after the departure. Conclusion. The authors proposed a step system of health and social care for members of the military reserve (retired) and an algorithm for its implementation, including regulations of interdepartmental interaction and integration of all organizations providing medical care.

Health assessment of children and adolescents living in a residential area of production for the disposal of rocket fuel: according to the results of the medical examination

Summary:

Aim: to determine the real prevalence separate nosological forms in the child population living in residential zone installations for the disposal of rocket fuel. Materials and methods. By mobile teams of pediatric physicians there was conducted a comprehensive medical examination of 1621 children in the area of the site location for disposal of rocket engines solid fuel. Results. The surveyed contingent of the most common diseases of the endocrine system, disorders of nutrition and metabolism (21.2% of diagnoses), diseases of the musculoskeletal and connective tissue (19.2 percent), as well as individual symptoms, signs and deviations from the norm by 14.4%. Conclusion. Data indicating the pronounced impact of adverse environmental factors, not identified.

Formation of self-preserving behavior of rural population is defined both by external conditions and factors, and by way of living of a particular person, its value orientations towards his or her own health, and later — by practical implementation of appropriate behavioral values. System of values as the element of culture and essential factor that forms people's attitude to their health determines health-saving or health-destructing practice. In reality, however, there is a mismatch of value orientations of rural population and practical actions for maintaining (destructing) its health.
