Summary:

Aims: to study the epidemiological aspects of syphilitic infection and neurosyphilis in the Saratov region for the period 2007-2017. Material and Methods. On the basis of statistical materials of the state statistical observation for 2007-2017 the indicators of syphilis incidence are analyzed. Results. The analysis of the data obtained from the state statistical supervision forms during 2007-2017 has shown the decreasing tendency of number of newly reported cases of syphilitic infection. The indicators of morbidity caused by late syphilis and neurosyphilis have increased. The number of regional cases of syphilitic infection with involvement in the pathological process of the nervous system exceeds similar indicators in Russia, and late asymptomatic neurosyphilis prevails among clinical forms. Conclusion. In the Saratov region for the period 2007-2017 there is a decrease in the incidence of syphilis, which is accompanied by an increase in hidden forms of infection and neurosyphilis.

Summary:

Purpose: identification of tendencies of development of incidence of a neurosyphilis and structures of clinical forms of a late neurosyphilis in Altai Territory. Material and Methods. Materials of forms of the state statistical overseeing of 1999-2016 across Altai Territory, official statistical materials of the Department of monitoring, the analysis and strategic development of health care, Federal State Budgetary Institution Central Research and Development Institute of the Organization and Informatization of Health Care, contemporary records of medical institutions of Altai Territory are analysed. Results. The carried-out retrospective analysis of incidence of a lues in Altai Territory for the 18-year period of observations revealed tendencies to decrease in primary incidence of a lues with simultaneous increase in structure of late forms, including a late neurosyphilis that completely confirmed the model of development of epidemic process constructed earlier by authors. In structure of forms of a late neurosyphilis without symptomless neurosyphilis, symptomless meningitis and meningovascular forms of neurosyphilis came to light more often. Conclusion. The clinical picture of late forms of a neurosyphilis is mainly without symptoms character now. Among demonstrative forms the meningovascular forms as a predictor of cerebrovascular pathology at working-age is registered more often.

VISUAL DISTURBANCES IN PATIENTS WITH LATENT SYPHILIS

Year: 2012, volume 8 Issue: №2 Pages: 460-463
Heading: Neurology Article type: Short message
Authors: Kolbenev I.O., Kamenskih T.G., Kolokolov O.V., Bakulev A.L., Kolokolova A.M.
Organization: Saratov State Medical University
Summary:

Screening methods in assessment of cognitive functions for neurosyphilis early diagnostics

Year: 2011, volume 7 Issue: №4 Pages: 879-884
Heading: Neurology Article type: Original article
Authors: Kolokolov О.V., Bakulev A.L, Sholomov I.I., Popovicheva О.A., Belousov М.I., Branova М.А., Abramova Т.P.
Organization: Saratov State Medical University
Summary:

The aim of the study: To examine the sensitivity of mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and clock drawing test (CDT) in screening of cognitive function in patients with syphilis. Materials and methods A total of 1387 patients with different forms of documented neurosyphilis were examined to study the deficiency of neurological function. The diagnosis of neurosyphilis was confirmed by CSF-study. In 75 cases cognitive function was studied by MMSE and clock drawing test. Results: MMSE and clock drawing test showed cognitive dysfunction in 76,4% of patients with syphilis. The sensitivity of both tests was rather equal. Such tests could be made in a short time and are simple in understanding. Thus these tests could help in the everyday practice of dermatologists and neurologists as screening methods of cognitive dysfunction in patients with syphilis. Conclusion: The results of screening tests in patients with significant cognitive dysfunction could be used in the early diagnostics and corresponding treatment of neurosyphilis

Summary:

The research goal is to evaluate the epidemiology of syphilis and neurosyphilis in the Saratov region science 1994 till 2010. Materials and methods: The forms of statistical inquiry in the Saratov region have been studied. The results of syphilis blood tests were examined in neurological departments of Saratov hospitals. Results: The tendency to reduction of syphilis morbidity was revealed in the Saratov region while the incidence of neurosyphilis increased. Severe forms of symptomatic neurosyphilis were predominant. In spite of increasing number of positive syphilis serological tests in neurological hospitals of Saratov the detection of neurosyphilis among neurological patients remained low. Conclusion: Neurosyphilis has become a common disease in the Saratov region. The issues of diagnostics and treatment of neurosyphilis should be considered by close cooperation between dermatologists and neurologists

Organization: Saratov State Medical University
Summary:

Aim: To evaluate the possibilities of the magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) in diagnostics and identification of neurosyphilis. Materials and methods: A total of 1387 patients with different forms of documented neurosyphilis were examined to study the deficiency of neurological function. The diagnosis of neurosyphilis was confirmed by CSF-study. MRT was performed in 57 cases. Results: Magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) in 6 patients showed no pathology, 16 patients had arachnoid cystic changes and in 16 cases hydrocephaly occurred. Cerebral cortical atrophy was presented in 13 patients, in 12 cases — multifocal changes were visualized, 12 patients had white matter structural changes. Two cases required diagnostics. A 59-year-old man was hospitalized with epileptic seizure, progressive dementia and multifocal neurologic symptoms. A 40-year-old man was examined with recurring episodes of acute cere-brospinal accident and progressing cognitive disorders. Conclusion: MRT could be used in differential diagnostics of neurosyphilis imitating space-occupying lesions of cerebrum and spinal cord, tumors of central nervous system and could help to define the form of neurosyphilis
