Summary:

The publication traces the career path of Professor D. V. Sadchikov, along with his contribution to the development of domestic anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. Professor D. V. Sadchikov created a novel branch of anes-thesiology and intensive care medicine, which comprised of studying the mechanisms of a patient critical condition formation based on the concept of nervous system priority and a functional systemic approach in various branches of a medical science: obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, neurosurgery and internal medicine. The use of this field of study made it possible to approach both intensive care and the replacement of dysfunctions in leading functional systems of a patient in a critical condition from a fundamentally novel standpoint. Professor D.V. Sadchikov's principal directions of his active medical practice were the issues related to the critical condition of a patient in obstetrics and gynecology (primarily, pre-eclampsia and endotoxemia); pain relief in severe concomitant pathology; prevention of the development and intensive care of pulmonary complications in neurotrauma; intensive care in acute cerebrovascular accidents; as well as to the establishment of the anesthesia and intensive care service in Saratov Oblast. Having pursued a successful professional path, Dr. D. V. Sadchikov made a significant contribution to the development of the field of study in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care and the establishment of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Service in Saratov Oblast.

Summary:

The study follows the career progress of a professional trauma orthopedist and a resourceful healthcare manager Gennadiy I. Chibrikov who started his way as a Junior Research Assistant and became Head Physician of the Saratov Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Neurosurgery. He designed the surgical management method for the complicated fractures of the ankle joint, suggested improvements to osteosynthesis for the lower third of lower-leg bones now used in dozens of the Russian Federation regions. During his 29 years as a Head Physician in the Institute he arranged efficient clinical care that also resulted in the enhancement of the researches.

Summary:

The study follows the career of the head of biomechanical laboratory in Saratov Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics Irina D. Kovaleva, the oldest employee of the institute who worked over 60 years in it. I. D. Kovaleva's contribution to biomechanical rationalization of Russian designs of hip joint endoprosthesis was great. The results of her research were implemented into endoprostheses designed by Shersher and Saratov Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, and overacetabular prosthesis. The novelty of her research was proven by the USSR inventor's certificates, patents of Russia and foreign countries including USA, UK, France, and West Germany.

Professor I.Ya. Livshits and his contribution to the development of national neurosurgery

Summary:

The article traces the professional path of Professor Lev Yakovlevich Livshits, assesses his scientific contribution to the development of national neurosurgery. The concept of minimally invasive surgical treatment of trigeminal nerve neuralgia, developed by L. Ya. Livshits, allowed developing an original method of puncture surgical treatment of pain syndrome by directed hydrothermal destruction of the sensitive trigeminal root. The concept of "growing radicalism" created by Professor L. Ya. Livshits allowed his students elaborating algorithms for treating severe chronic pain syndromes of any localization and etiology.

Summary:

Training methodology of medical students has been a subject for profound reforms during the recent years. Revolutionary technological progress is one of the reasons for this process; another reason is a constant search for the most efficient educational ideology. The article presents a historical review of medical education systems in Russia and in Europe. Innovational methods of problem-oriented training, involving use of recent electronic and technical achievements significantly differs traditional scheme, described as a «tutor-student» system. The present work focuses particularly on scientific research as a part of medical training, and its role in preparation of modern medical practitioners. It is stated that doctor is a person who combines professional skills and personal qualities. Therefore complex of technocratic and humanitarian aspects in medical education assists in development of successful training system.

N.K.Kulchitsky, the world famous Russian scientist, histologist, professor, Senator and the last Minister of education of Imperial Russia, in 1912-1914 was the director of Kazan educational district to which Saratov University also belonged at that time. V.V. Golubinov — one of the publications authors, the great-grandson of N.K.Kulchitsky, graduate of Saratov University n.a.
